Blog #10: The End: Tuesday December 13th 12/16/2011
My final thoughts about the whole WLE is that it’s a good experience and it helps improve some important skills such as interacting with different people and working in a professional environment. My WLE will help me I the future by expanding my resume, improving my job skills and getting me more work experience. Add Comment Today at my WLE I worked on my project along with putting new shipment out and recovering. I feel I improved as an intern by being more helpful because I was able to learn where everything needs to go instead of constantly asking where something goes. In my case my inter is a good place to work because its dealing with retail and one day I would like to get into retail. Back when I was looking for my WLE I called many places I may be interested in interning at and spoke with someone in charge and told them about the WLE experience. After calling many places and not offering internships I went in to different places in person and talked to the managers and told them about WLE. I feel going in person is more effective because it shows to person in charge that your serious about wanting to intern there. As a result of my WLE I feel being a professional adult means being punctual, on task and focused. During my time at my WLE I learned that it was challenging for me to learn the different departments. A department is a section of the store that specific items go in. This was difficult for me because not all the earrings went in one section, only specific earrings went in certain sections so I had to learn how to differentiate between what things went in what sections. After having weeks to figure out what things went in what departments I learned that I was able to figure out what went where. I overcame this challenge by first learning where each department was then I learned what item went in what section I did this by asking my mentor and other employees there for help. A skill that I improved in was interacting with people because there was always different people coming into the store asking questions. The things I learned at my WLE will help me in the future because I better developed my skills of interacting with people and learning how to work in a professional environment. The leadership skills I use the most at my WLE are collaborate productively and complete projects effectively. I use collaborating effectively when me and another employee are putting out shipment. When putting out shipment one of us unwraps the jewelry with the other puts the jewelry which makes the shipment process go a lot faster than if only one of us were to do this. I use completing projects effectively when my mentor gives me a new task to complete. I use this skill in order to make sure I complete my task in a timely manner. I could improve in collaborating effectively when I scan bins of merchandise to see if its on sell. When doing this task only one person does this but I we collaborated to complete this task it would go a lot faster. The leadership skills my mentor uses the most is completing projects effectively because through out the day my mentor has many tasks that she needs to complete. My day during WLE consisted of me putting out new shippment, recovering and helping cutomers. Today me and my mentor went over the basics of retail for my project. I haven't done much for my project at this point just going over a couple of things I need to know in order to complete my project. For my project me and my mentor barinstormed different ideas for a project and used process of elimination to choose to best project that would fit my workplace. The project we came up with was how does retail work? We choose this because When I get older I also want to go into retail so this would be a good opportunity for my to learn about it and make a project out of it. While doing this project I need to accomplish certain tasks such as learning the basics of retail and doing before and afters of the shelves with merchandise on them. My resposibility at my workplace is an associate therefore I basically do all the things an associate would do such as recovering and stocking shelves. Recovering is going around the store and looking at all the shelves and towers to make sure everything is organized and where it needs to be and if I see something that doesnt belong I have to find the right department it belongs to. Stocking shelves is filling all the empty shelves with the new merchandise. A typical day for me consists of recovering, putting out new merchandise and helping customers. I usually start the day by putting out merchandise and end with recovery and I help the customers all throughout the day. Blog #2 My Mentor: Tuesday October 18th 12/16/2011
My mentor's name is Amber and she is the manager of Claire's. A typical day for Amber consists of restocking the jewelry towers, having meetings with her district manager, checking sales, and completeing paper work. When Amber's not there I work with Amber's assistant managers Lynn and Natalie. They became interested in this job because of their interest in retail. In order to have their positions you do not need a college degree. Blog #1: My workplace: Tuesday October 11th 12/16/2011
My workplace is called Claire's accessories and it is a retail store that sells jewerly. Claire's is a large chain corporation and one of their chain stores is located in Pleseanton at Stoneridge mall. My workplace looks like a very small store with a lot of merchandise. During my WLE I worked with about 6 different employees all of these employees were younger women. Because I work at a retail store there are no college degrees needed to work there. The people my workplace mostly serves are young girls. Some strengths about my workplace is that they have a lot of mechandise, a con would be that all that merchandise is in a small space. | AuthorWrite something about yourself.
